This Sunday, the 7th of April, is World Health Day, and since I tend to be a Monday-to-Friday blogging kinda gal, I thought I’d better mention it today before we head into the weekend.
Occupations tend to run in families. On my side of the family-tree there are two architects, and LOTS of schoolteachers. My sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and two cousins all chose teaching as their profession. On my husband’s side there are several nurses, so…
This is a shout-out to all the health care professionals out there. Thank you for all that you do! I know that there are times when I get frustrated with you because it feels like you don’t do enough, but really, I couldn’t get better without you. THANK YOU.
(That said, if I could be a little bit needy for just a moment, I would like to remind you to really listen to what we say; I’ve lived in this body for 50 years, so I’ve got a pretty good idea about what might not feel right about it).
Don’t forget this Sunday to also extend your thinking beyond your own health and take the time to remember all those less fortunate than you (yes, I know you’re hurting but there are many, many people that don’t have access to ANY medication, let alone effective ones). Here’s a link to the World Health Organization’s World Health Day reminder “My Health, My Right” with an accompanying video – it’s not easy watching, but it IS important you watch:
World Health Day 2024 (who.int)
Make Sunday the day you slow down, take lots of deep breaths, send a silent thank you to your doctors for helping you heal, and spare a thought for the millions of people whose healthcare struggles are harder than ours.
Take care over the weekend, Linda x
