Meet the Burples

June is Migraine Awareness Month, as I recently mentioned. One of Migraine Australia’s initiatives for this month is the launch of “the Burples” aimed at helping draw attention to migraines in a fun way. There are three Burples on the webpage. As a hemiplegic migraine person, the one that I most associate with is Billie, who goes by the following description:

Billie is really passionate about the rarer forms of migraine, like vestibular migraine which affects people’s balance, abdominal migraine which upsets the tummy, or hemiplegic migraine that causes stroke like symptoms.

“But, whether you have a funky type of migraine, or the regular headache type, remember – migraine doesn’t define you. You be you.”

Migraine Australia has asked that we “Support Burple Day on the first Friday in June by wearing burgundy and purple to raise awareness of migraine.”

So, it would only be right that I give it a go with one of Migraine Australia’s template frames:

Take care people, love, Linda and Bille. x

PS – if you live in Australia, the following webpage lets you know the buildings that will light-up in purple on specific dates, to show their support: Light Up Australia – Migraine Australia

PPS – this week has been abnormally filled with my photos – I usually hide behind my healing-mandala and do my best to keep a low profile. Anyway, now that you know what I look like and the promotions for Migraine Awareness Month are over (for me), next week it will be back to inspirational images only!

To make up for commenting late I give you a burple adventure!

The Burple Adventure: The Quest for the Glistening Gem

In a cozy, dimly lit corner of the world where shadows are friends and sunlight is a distant enemy, lived Bindi, Bennie, and Billie, the three beloved Burples. They thrived in their hidden burrows and caverns, but every now and then, an adventure called them beyond their comfortable homes. This time, it was the legend of the Glistening Gem that stirred their curiosity.

The Glistening Gem was said to be a mystical stone with the power to soothe even the most severe migraine. It glowed with a gentle, purplish light and was rumored to be hidden in the heart of the Forgotten Forest. Though the journey would be perilous, the potential to help both Burples and humans alike was too great to ignore.

    The Journey Begins

Bindi, always eager to look her best even on an adventure, packed a bag with essentials: her favorite purple nail polish, her shiniest sunglasses, and a small mirror. Bennie, the rock star, packed his guitar and a pair of extra cool shades. Billie, ever the practical one, brought a map, some snacks, and a flashlight with white lenses.

As they ventured out of their dark enclave, the sun was beginning to set, casting long shadows across the landscape. This was their moment to move. The first challenge was crossing the Meadow of Mirrors, a field filled with reflective surfaces that could amplify even the tiniest glint of sunlight.

“Stay close and follow me,” Billie said, taking the lead with their flashlight to guide the way. The trio navigated carefully, avoiding the dazzling reflections that could trigger a migraine.

    The Misty Marshes

After successfully crossing the Meadow of Mirrors, they entered the Misty Marshes, a place known for its thick fog and tricky paths. Here, Bennie’s music came in handy. He played a soothing tune on his guitar, which seemed to calm the marsh and reveal safe paths through the mist.

“I knew there was more to your music than just coolness,” Bindi teased, her voice softening in appreciation.

“Music is magic,” Bennie replied with a grin, though he kept a wary eye on the fog around them.

    The Cavern of Echoes

Their next challenge was the Cavern of Echoes. This dark, winding cave amplified every sound tenfold, making it difficult to concentrate. For Burples, whose senses were already heightened, this place was especially treacherous.

“We have to be very quiet,” Billie whispered, leading them through the maze of tunnels. Bindi’s mirror proved useful here, reflecting just enough light to guide their steps without causing disruptive echoes.

Suddenly, they heard a distant rumble. The ground shook slightly, and they froze.

“What was that?” Bennie asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

“Probably just the cavern settling,” Billie reassured, though they quickened their pace.

    The Heart of the Forest

Finally, they emerged into the heart of the Forgotten Forest. Here, the air was cool, and the ground was covered in a carpet of soft moss. In the center of a small clearing stood a stone pedestal, and atop it, glowing with a soft, purplish light, was the Glistening Gem.

As they approached, a gentle hum filled the air, soothing their senses. Bindi reached out and carefully picked up the gem. Instantly, a wave of calm washed over them, easing their tension and relieving their aches.

“We did it!” Bindi exclaimed, her eyes shining with joy behind her sunglasses.

“But how do we share this with everyone?” Bennie wondered aloud.

“The legend says the gem’s power can be shared through its light,” Billie explained. “We need to create a place where both Burples and humans can come to experience its healing properties.”

    A New Sanctuary

With the Glistening Gem in hand, they made their way back home, the journey seeming shorter and easier now. They found a perfect spot in a central cave where the gem could be placed on display. Word spread quickly among the Burples and eventually to the humans as well.

People with migraines began to visit the Burple sanctuary, finding relief and comfort in the gem’s gentle glow. The Burples, once shy and hidden, became ambassadors of hope and healing, sharing their unique bond with the human world.

And so, Bindi, Bennie, and Billie not only found the Glistening Gem but also created a lasting legacy of unity and support, proving that even the smallest creatures can make a big difference.
