I am more than my body

Published by

Across the centuries and all cultures, there has always been a sense of something ‘beyond’ us mere mortals.  Perhaps because we ‘travel’ in our dreams, humans have no problem believing in this other realm.  Moreover, there has also always been people who claim they can act as the intermediary between that time-space location and ours… those who claim they can communicate with other travelers.

The human-non-human travelers take on a variety of guises, including angels and demons, ghosts and spirits, shades and souls, astral travelers, and energy essences awaiting reincarnation.

Sometimes the people who know their ways are revered as shamans or tribal medicine men, and sometimes they are tormented as witches or warlocks.  Other times they hold a more tenuous standing, portrayed as either a serious voodoo-practitioner or a curiosity, a hocus-pocus person, selling trinkets to tourists.

Even today, there is confusion amongst my acquaintances about whether to ‘believe’ in treatments as diverse as Reiki, intercranial massage, and the laying-on of hands or whether meditation alone can make cellular changes within our bodies in a mind-over-matter way.

The reason I bring all this up is to remind you that you are more than your body.  It’s up to you decide how and why.  All I know is that I have a ‘spirit’ that may well be a soul, or else a personal creative energy that spills out of my being.  I make things, make things happen, have an influence on those around me, and create ripple effects simply by existing…

If you are more than your body, then you are more than your sick body.

When your body is struggling, it doesn’t mean all of ‘you’ needs to struggle.

I’m not really sure how to articulate what I’m thinking – or feeling – it’s not going quiet as smoothly as I imagined it when I started writing.  Regardless, I take comfort in knowing that my body is only one part of my being.  I am more than a brain on a stick, but also more than a heart and organs, more even, than the sum of all the parts of my physical body combined…

UGH – I hope that you can get the gist of what I’m trying to say.

If someone else can explain it better, or has read another author that ‘gets it’, I’d love you to say so in the comments!

Regardless – in body, mind, and spirit:

Take care carefully, Linda x

PS – after I had written the draft for this post, but before I was ready to hit publish, I saw a post by the lovely Susana Cabaço on her Instagram page which articulates the essence of what I was trying to say – beautifully – you can read her blog post here: Human rainbow. The two opening sentences resonate exactly with what I have been dwelling on: “Beyond your physicality, there are the ethereal nuances of you. You are not only secretly made of light; you are also carrying a rainbow inside.” How lovely! Thank you Susana for being a shining light in my digital world!

There is something quite liberating about the distinction – I’m not particularly spiritual, but it helps me regardless to let go in a way. xx

Yeah… I don’t think I can ever totally forget my pain when it is there, but in the ‘quieter’moments it is nice to remember to be more than one thing, Linda xx

You don’t have to stop, stop, you just have to be mindful of whether its the right volume for the situation. I shout out at my situation plenty of times too!

Isn’t it such a lovely image to have in your heart – a rainbow inside us – I see it so many other people, I just need to practice believing it is inside me too, L xx

Linda, your point is well made, our physical struggles don’t define us, we are more than our bodies. In talking about alternate treatments, what do you think about listening to music at different Hz or frequencies to help in healing?

I’m really leaning into the music frequency thing – I don’t totally understand it, but I absolutely feel better when I listen to music that is low and deep. The higher, tinny sounds, put my teeth on edge at the moment, so I avoid those. I almost feel as if the earth’s heartbeat is in those lower notes… hard to explain, but the internet is full of great options which I listen to instead of a meditation sometimes. How about you? Do they work for you?

I know I feel more relaxed mentally and physically, but music has always been my safe place!

I left it behind for a year or so when I was at my sickest (all noise felt dangerous) but I have slowly brought it back into my day and it makes all the difference! xx

Yes, “When your body is struggling, it doesn’t mean all of ‘you’ needs to struggle.” Actually, the non-physical aspect of you is key in “solving” the imbalance, as it is the source of life force energy itself. Besides, it is very comforting to know that not the whole of you is unbalanced. Loved how you expressed your essential self: “a personal creative energy that spills out of my being. I make things, make things happen, have an influence on those around me, and create ripple effects simply by existing…” How profound and grand is that?! Wonderful post, Linda! A heartfelt thank you for linking to my post and for all your kind words. Deeply appreciated, my friend! Light and blessings to you, today and always 🙏✨🌈
