Brain-strain (not pain): Part ONE (questions)

Published by

on

I’ve been talking a lot about how to improve brain health from the point of view of minimizing pain. But I also realized that brain health in general is important; “use it or lose it”, as they say. So, I thought that for something completely different, I’d find three ‘matchstick problems’ online and make up some graphics for them. The questions are here today (Tuesday my time), and the answers and how-to’s will come out 2 days from now (Thursday my time).

If you can figure them out (I only got one right straight away, another one I botched my way through, and the third I gave up on), let me know in the comments section, without revealing how you got there so everyone else can keep trying.

[My reply might look something like: 👍? X]

Here we go:

Good luck and take care of that brain of yours, Linda x

I’m pretty sure I got them, unless someone disqualifies the last one for a certain reason I won’t mention.

Apparently there’s a way to change your ‘fluid intelligence’, which they previously thought was unchangeable, by doing ‘dual n-back’ tests. I’ve been doing them awhile on an app, and I can’t say I’m any more or less intelligent but at the start it definitely felt like things felt a bit clearer, but whether that was like a placebo effect I’ll never know. Combined with getting older I’m probably going backwards;-P

    Anyway, fun to do, thanks:-)

Always welcome – I think that the more you think, the better you get at thinking. You start to see new things, or notice old things in a new light. Some connections speed up a little bit, and your confidence grows. Perhaps our brain is like a muscle, the more you flex it the stronger it gets.

Now, if I could just get motivated to do the same for all the other muscles in my body, I’d be able to join all the other super-heroes who do the Boston Marathon (in a bout 10 years from now!) xox

I’ve tried both – I’m on the website, not app, maybe that’s the problem…

It’s so confusing! I can see it on the web (not the app) but someone I asked to check got the bitfender red cross and won’t go any further. SIGH. Serves me right for trying to do something ‘tricky’… Sorry for wasting your time – Thursday will be the same 😔

I have always been terrible of these type of exercises. I have very bad spatial ability. That’s why I get lost all the time. 😂

In this instance, I promise you won’t get lost if you keep staring at your computer monitor; I got you! 💕

I tried but my brain is so tired nothing happened. I had to take another skills assessment test today for my new job that starts on the 13th. It’s the third assessment test I’ve taken in a month. Brain cannot compute.🫠

That is an excuse I WILL accept!

I haven’t had to do an entry assessment for a job for many years… I remember once doing a personality test and they accused me of trying to cheat the system because I ranked a photo of a red sportscar and a sunset as having equal beauty. When I explained I was an architect who valued good design as much as natural beauty, they backed down. Sheesh!

Good luck with your battery of tests. Linda xxx
