Jumbled journal prompter

Published by

on

I’m not one to follow the daily prompts of blog-land (I’m flat out getting through my own material (can you believe I still haven’t gotten around to writing about hydration!?)).  That said, I did see something about an A to Z challenge that for some reason reminded me of a game we used to play as kids.

Think of the name of your first ever pet (or teddy bear) and the street name of your first home (you can choose your childhood home or the first home you purchased).  You put the two words together and get a new name for yourself.  For me, it’s “Snagglepuss Simmons”.  Congratulations!  Like it or not, that becomes your ‘stage name’, your alter ego spy name, or writerly nom de plume.  Or, as in my case, your slightly cringey ‘what the heck’ moniker you’ll never use for anything other than a good laugh.

I’ve also seen websites and tables where you can invent the name of your new thriller novel by using random word generators that throw two words together willy-nilly.

I thought I’d take all these ideas and turn them into a Mindful Migraine journal prompter.

I’ve created two A-Z columns of (mostly) positive, mindful words.  You take the first letter of your first name and the word from the first column, then combine it with the corresponding word from the first letter of your second name for the second word.  If it helps make more sense, add ‘The’ to the front of your prompt:

This is a list of alphabetical words associated with mindfulness that you can use to prompt you to write in your journal.

I sign my blog posts “Linda x” to send you my love (but also to save myself from being identified and embarrassing my teenage daughters).  My journal prompt, therefore, would be: “The Luminous Xylophone”.  Even though it sounds strange at first, it does send my mind spinning off in the direction of light and music, and musical lightness, and memories from school when I used to play a giant timber xylophone under a spotlight…

Remember with journalling, there’s no wrong or right, just ‘w-rite’.

My husband’s initials are AB, so his journal prompt would be “The attentive blogger” (hmmm… whatever would he write about?!)

If you’re looking for a fun way to get some journalling done, have a go at the list above and see where it takes you.  If you’re not a writer, then just use the words as a thought prompt; let your mind wonder-wander from this strange starting point and see where it takes you.

If all that fails, go back to thinking about how you could use your stage name in real life. Or maybe combine the two name-games… “Snagglepuss Simmons – the luminous xylophone player!”

(The mind boggles!)

Enjoy – and take care – Linda x

So mine would be kindred adventures and would it surprise you to learn that certain family events (my partner’s family, mostly) are what used to trigger my worst migraines…. ???

I don’t know whether to laugh out loud or feel insanely guilty for accidentally reminding you of past difficulties!! Maybe lets put a spin on the word “kindred” and think of it as being all of us migrainey people rather than blood relos, all adventuring through life together??!!?? Hope this weekend’s as pain free as possible regardless (and the relos are good too!) xx

Don’t worry I laughed, you can too! I’m pretty much ok these days, I have an OTC med that I take a quarter of if I’m feeling headachey, and if need be I lie down with an ice pack on my neck and hot water bottle on my feet 😉

Daisy Main really does have a ‘stage name’ quality to it 😉 Combining it with a Secret Gift probably doesn’t help; but I still love the unpredictability of it! And if you have any aches and pains, then, laughter sometimes is the best medicine; enjoy the giggles and thank you so much for being here; you’re always welcome! xox

Yay – that’s a goodie; there’s a couple of different directions my mind is running with how to interpret the phrase! How wonderful if it produces a poem – but just as wonderful if it merely sparks something for a moment and then fades… fate will decide how the words land… if at all. xox

Ok I like Joyful Mission, I think it suits me.

I use to write mostly about my family but kinda felt like I ran out of things to say so started on different themes for different days and well if you read my blog you now know what I write about.

It’s funny isn’t, I’ve gone through phases too. I’ve done dream journals, one year I did the A-Z challenge, another year it was more about manifesting… I think it’s so great that we have the luxury to write and write and write… the what is never as important as the why. xox

Ohhh… that brings up mixed ideas for me – I love a super spontaneous gift, but the mindful ones imply that someone really gets me (or I them)… but it’s not me that’s meant to be writing (oops – I just can’t help myself!#@$?).
