In Australia there’s currently a hamburger add on TV that keeps replaying an old jingle that goes through all the ingredients that go into the famous hamburger. ‘Secret sauce’ is, of course, included. I also remember there’s a famous chicken brand that loves to promote its ‘seven secret herbs and spices’. If that’s not enough, a content creator on LinkedIn recently wrote about how you need to discover your secret sauce and promote it to stand out from the crowd. To top it all off, the phrase jumped out at me from the opening stanza of the poem “The Mirthful Divide” on Ink Stains & Daydreaming‘s blog when I was blog-scrolling.
What’s a person’s secret sauce? I don’t know. I suppose it relates to our individual stories that make us who we are, which go into creating our you-nique way of seeing the world and our you-nique voice for describing it.
But is that ‘saucy’?
The content creator implied that after you discover your ‘secret sauce’ you also need to come up with something ‘spicy’ to stand out. It all started sounding a bit too risqué for me, so I moved on to reading something else.
But then I wondered; is there a secret sauce for migraines? In the same way we have to work hard to figure out our individual migraine triggers, do we each have a secret recipe for success? Yes. I think that is largely true. In this instance, I don’t mind the analogy. A ‘secret sauce’ is considered the perfect blend of different ingredients, all mixed ‘just so’. It’s something that you crave, and something that is often illusive.
In the same way that we are each triggered by different things, in differing amounts, we also have different strategies to manage those triggers. Once we get it ‘right’ it helps to stick to it… at least until our glitchy-old-migraine-brain goes and changes the rules (which, over the decades, mine has done a couple of times). It all comes back to the ‘matrix’ I talk about; balancing triggers and tolerance and closing the gap between them.
So next time you’re tweaking your approach to migraines, (and perhaps getting a little bit frustrated it’s taking so long), imagine yourself as a master chef inventing the next big thing… because in a way you are; get the balance right between your personal triggers and tolerance, and you’re already on the path to better managing your migraines! How tasty is that!?!
Take care taking care, Linda x
[PS – A while back I wrote about how we can ALL be influencers, but I’ve recently discovered that “influencers” are apparently “so last year”… now it’s seemingly all about being a “content creator” on social media! As a blogger I understand that I’m a content creator, but I don’t want to be called that… there’s so much ‘content’ out there already; we’re drowning in content, the world is so noisy with content, AI can ‘create content’… it sounds so pointless to create more ‘content’. So, I’m pushing back on the notion that I’m a content creator – instead – I’m going to create what I think is more important; change, hope, healing-suggestions, motivation, generosity, connections… Hence forth, I’m going to refer to myself as a “kindness creator”!]
