Night Nausea

Published by

So, for all of you who visit looking for some optimistic insights about living your healthiest, happiest, bestest life – today’s not the day – sorry. I went to the neurologist’s office yesterday for Botox. Things are hectic here at the moment too, so maybe it’s stress, or maybe it was food poisoning, or maybe it was the Botox… regardless, I felt sick all night, and having got next to no sleep, I feel like sh!t (sorry).

I’m begging some advice rather than blogging today. Given the subject relates to throwing up, unless you’re a fellow ‘sicko’, you might want to come back tomorrow!

I woke up in the middle of the night with what I call a ‘midnight migraine’. I took my half-a-tablet of a Triptan and two big glasses of water to help them dissolve and get absorbed better, and hopefully help with hydration… because we all know how the mantra goes; “drink more water.”

When I got back into bed, however, it was if I could feel the water moving through my body and sloshing around inside my stomach – and it made me want to throw up.

I lay on my back, but my stomach – the actual organs inside me – felt like they were falling in on themselves – and it made me want to throw up.

So, I lay on my side, but my bent knee seemed to crush my stomach – and it made me want to throw up.

I lay on my back again, but then it was the blanket pushing on my neck that made me feel gaggy, and yeah – it made me want to throw up.

If I rolled over too fast, breathed too deeply, sighed too loudly – all of it, everything, anything – it made me want to throw up.

UGH – the pain in my head eventually went away with the medication, but I stayed up all night feeling like I was going to throw up.

So, this is a call out to anyone else who gets nauseous in the night – I’d love to know if you have any tips or tricks that might help.

Trying to take care, Linda x

I’m just curious, was this your first Botox treatment? I’m getting my first next month, the medications don’t seem to work for me. Glad you’re feeling better, hope it doesn’t repeat but it sounds like you have some good remedies if it does.

This was round 5 or 6, but with a new doctor – I don’t think he did anything different, but I do think I was in a bit of a tizzy worrying about it (if that makes sense)! I’ve written about it somewhere else on the blog – it’s not an enjoyable experience, but it’s not terrible, and it seems to have made a big difference for me. Stay hydrated before, breathe through the injections, and rest when you get back home – sounds lame, but they are the big three tips that generally make a big difference. Let me know how you go – or send me an email if you want a more detailed chat – fingers crossed it makes a difference for you too! xox

Any sort of rough go of it during sleeping hours and I move from the bed to my recliner chair in the living room, Linda. I take it back, but I won’t be flat, and I won’t be on my side, and I won’t be bothering my wife with tossing and turning, and … zzzzzzz.

This is the worst. I feel for you. I used to try Tums which never seemed to do the trick and then by chance I tried GasX even though it is not gas per say but it works to settle my stomach quite well. Hope you have a better night tonight.

I’m so sorry. Night nausea is awful! I basically follow the same routine as Dawna, except I have some ginger drops or ginger tea to settle my stomach. Elevating my head helps me. I cannot sleep flat.

UGH – it’s rotten – I feel much better now though – I’m very interested in following up your suggestion of the ginger drops (might avoid making too much noise at night boiling the kettle for tea). Thank you kindly for the feedback, I appreciate it 1000%. xox

So sorry you’re feeling nausea at night. That’s the worst. The only thing that seems to help me, and I know this is so beyond weird is, I elevate my head. Instead of 1 pillow I use 2, soft ones. I then take 4 tums, drink a little water and here’s the weird part, I suck on menthol cough drops. It seems to help. Not 100% of the time, but a good 50-60% of the time.

Hugs to you and praying you feel better soon.

Ok, that does sound a bit weird… but not totally. I often suck on a gingernut biscuit – they’re very hard and take a long time to break down. I think the ginger is minimal, but there is something in the slow melt that helps, like your cough drop… I might try the menthol approach too; they would make breathing seem ‘crisper’. Sitting more upright helped for awhile too… thank you for writing lovely, it means a lot to me. xx

A pile-a-pillows works for me most times… just not last night. 🤢 Here’s hoping your day is brighter than mine! xox
