Potentially off topic, I know, but I was reading a ten-year-old magazine the other day (I’d like to pretend it was in a doctor’s office, but it was actually (inexplicably) on my bookshelf). Halfway through the magazine I came across the image of a lovely farmhouse in an idyllic, arcadian, wonderland.
So, I swooned over the picture, right?
Wrong. I was totally and utterly distracted by the “bombastic side-eye” that the dalmatian dog was giving:

Why? I’m not really sure, other than the fact that I felt I could totally relate. Not because I have anything against the farmer-lady in the doorway, or have an issue with farmhouses, or photographers (well maybe the last one makes me a tad squeamish (see my post here)).
I think it’s just that after a lifetime of (un)solicited advice about chronic pain management, I have loose eyeballs that are always wanting to roll to the side. Get more Sleep! Drink more Water! Pay Attention to your triggers! Eat Nutritious foods! Exercise! Have a more positive outlook and say ‘Yes I can heal myself’! (and yep – I did just make fun of my SWANEY anacronym for a healthy lifestyle!!)
The point is, we all occasionally get advice we’re not really in the mood for and sometimes serious side-eye is the best response there is.
So, are there any other animals that like to give side-eye? Well, yes there are – I’m glad you asked! Here’s a few I found off the internet (I just took them off the Google search page, sorry, so no formal image sources – oops).

I seriously love the quacker, but my all-time favorite is:

So, next time someone (un)helpfully tells you to “drink more water and eat a banana” you know what to do; politely say “yeah – nah” and release a side order of serious side-eye.
Hereโs hoping you find your tribe (flock / pack / herd) and that you can all laugh it out together โ because sometimes laughter really is the best medicine.
Take care and keep smiling everyone, Linda x
