Find your WHO

OK, confession time: I’m not really up on the whole DC comics or Marvel thing, or (yell at me now) what the difference between the two ‘worlds’ is… but… sometimes you find yourself “in” their world regardless.

In Australia, one of our major supermarkets had a promotion a while back where you get given a little cardboardy bobble-head POP-person (again – sorry all you true fans). Anyway – I ended up with a few bags of the characters, and the kids that I usually give them to were away… so, out of curiosity, I opened ONE up… like a mystery-lottery… and the one that I got was apparently called “Green Lantern Lady” (sorry for the low resolution photo – I keep my room pretty dark!):

Now, at the risk of sounding completely demented, as I stood her on the corner of my computer, I thought to myself, “she looks a bit like me!”

“Bwha-ha-ha-haaaaaa”, I hear you say; “yeah right!”

But here’s the thing – she’s got my little bob-haircut, albeit brown like the old days, not grey like now. Plus, she’s a little short and wide – I can relate. Most importantly, though, she has a dodgy-weird right eye… like migraine me!

Because I know nothing about Green Lantern Lady, or any other superhero ladies for that matter, I went searching for her story.

Here’s the figure that came closest to the one that my cardboard cutout looks like (albeit waaaay more curvy):

[Image source: 10 Greatest Female Green Lanterns of All Time (comicbasics.com)]

Based on the above website, her name is Jessica Cruz, and her back story includes witnessing some mobsters carrying out a murder which leaves her traumatized, highly anxious and house-bound… until, that is, she is chosen to become a protector of the universe. With the power of the “Ring of Volthoom” (or perhaps against it?) and some help from Batman (naturally), she goes on to become one of the most epic Green Lantern ladies ever (who knew there would be more than one)!

On another website (here), she is applauded for her “bad@$$ery”.

So, putting aside the gangsta storyline, the magical ring, and being BFF’s with Batman… the two of us have some synergies….

Bwha-ha-ha-haaaaa!!

No seriously – we both have ouchy-looking right-eyes and a touch of undiagnosed agoraphobia!

Sometimes on your healing journey you have to “Find Your WHY“… other times, it’s kind of fun to Find Your WHO!

Speaking of which (clumsy segway coming up) – today is my NINE MONTH anniversary of blogging – screeeeam! I can’t believe it… who knew I’d find the stamina! The point is – my favorite thing about marking my monthly anniversaries is to do a shoutout to the blogs that I’ve been reading and WHO motivate me to keep blogging… drum roll please… here’s 9 blogs that have caught my attention of late:

A Grace Full Life: A Grace Full Life (agracefull-life.com)

Dan’s Food Blog: I’m Dan, a mad scientist in the kitchen

Garden Lights: Garden Lights 1987

Linda xox

PS – if you identify with a particular superhero for any particular reason – save me some embarrassment and let me know I’m not alone!

Once again I really enjoyed reading your article, and congratulations on the 9 month hallmark! That is super impressive, keep up the good work and the badassery! 😊

You got me thinking about which superhero I identify with, and I think I am as little up to date as you are on superheroes. But a character that I would like to identify with is Danaerys Targaryen of Game of Thronesβ€”not a superhero, sorry! I find her journey from becoming a powerless princess that is wed off to someone she initially does not like to growing into one of the most influential and powerful people in the world, completely in control of her life, incredibly inspiring.

I was honestly under the impression that you had been blogging for years, judging by the great quality of your posts, and I see that I was not the only one here!

(And also, thanks a lot for the shoutout 😊 I appreciate it!)

Danaerys Targaryen is a super cool character – I often talk about moving along the loser-learner-leader spectrum, and she did that across the series for sure! (I think because I blog 5 times a week, it seems like I’ve been blogging for longer!) Have a wonderful weekend, and my pleasure for the shoutout! xox

I have no knowledge of super heroes – I’m of the vintage that John Wayne was a super hero – but my just turned 4 grandson knows the backstory of all of them. Truly! Battles to wipe his own bum but no probs with this stuff. Amazing.

I like how you integrate all these aspects on your migraine journey, Linda… I like Spiderman and watched all its series of movies, plus the animations. I think I am a black spiderman, lol coz his personality mimics mine. It was such a pleasurable post.

I totally see the dodgy eye resemblance (dodgy is rarely heard around here, but I love the word and think I will start using it). I, too, am largely ignorant of the superhero world, although there was a short period in the ’90s when a friend would loan me his Justice League comics as long as I was VERY CAREFUL with them (I was). I, personally, could never rock that much spandex.

I think your perseverance in this migraine-learning march shows you share a lot of badassery with the Green Lantern Lady, Linda!
I have watched a Marvel movie in my past, but I’m not immersed in any universe nowadays. Going back to comic-reading days … OK, way back … I’d relate still to Archie and his gang. Ha.

Well done and thanks for your informative and well written blogs. They are your journey and dare I say it, rather painful adventure.

As for superheroes, the saying that “You needed a hero so you became one” fits too. I think I would rather like the superpower to be able to fly! To see my world from above instead of slogging up hills…. hahaha!

    thanks for reblogging me too.

My pleasure – I’d like to fly too – I can’t think of much use for x-ray vision or super strength or turning invisible… but flying would speed things up a lot – I could bypass all the traffic, fill a backpack with food and fly home again!! 🀣

Congratulations on your blog annuversary. Like Kiss By The Book, I thought you had been blogging much longer than this.

You are not alone being confused with DC Comics and Marvel thing as I have found to be the same when watching films from both of these.

Once again, thank you for the shout out.

    Enjoy your blogging journey. X
