Finding faith

Published by

on

As I’ve written before (The Global Migraine), the readers of this blog come from all around the world, and undoubtedly from a variety of different faiths.  As such, I want to tread carefully but be very clear – you are ALL welcome here.  I also want to say something potentially controversial; faith does not have to be solely religion-based.

There have been a few times in my life that I have thought with intense conviction, “if God exists, He lives here”.  One was inside Chartres Cathedral in France, another time was on a mountainside in Nepal.  There was also a moment walking silently through the National Park in the Giant Redwood forest in California, surrounded by enormous, ancient trees.  Twice more I sensed a miracle when I stared at my newborn babies.

On these occasions, the overriding emotion was awe.  Awe at humanity’s ingenuity and our ability to construct reverent serenity.  Awe at the magnitude of the world as mountain after mountain moved outward into the mist.  Awe at the survival ability of ancient, living creatures that had grown to such impressive sizes.  Awe that I had helped make this new human being that contained within its tiny self the limitless potential to be anything.

Of course, the reverse can also be true.  I have stared in dismay at the destruction mankind achieves, effortlessly and with abandon.  I have been winded and brought to my knees by mountains and felt fearful when I was lost in the woods (real and metaphorical).  I have also, (tell no one), been driven to distraction by my two tiny creations and heaved great hulking sighs of frustration at their (in)action.

If we can set those negative memories aside, however, and return to the moments that filled us with awe, we can channel universal faith all over again.  We can (re)feel a sense of radiant joy, immersive strength, ancient wisdom, and limitless potential.  And with this sense of renewed glory, we can feel grateful and compassionate and cultivate a sense of love, big enough, bold enough for ourselves and each other.

When you have a second child, your ability to love is not halved, it is doubled.  Have more children, and love grows and grows.

Wellbeing is not just physical and emotional.

It is also spiritual – whatever that means to you.

I hope that on your journey to greater health and happiness, you can find awe in the world around you, in its enormity and its tiniest details.  And I hope that with that awe you can channel all the positivity that the universe has to offer into your own being.

Take care in your caring, Linda x

This has been my experience… and the arrival of our grandchildren has greatly added to the blessing.

I think today it is very easy to get stuck in a scarcity thinking mode – but it need not be the case – the world really is filled with small miracles (grandchildren included!) Thank you so much for visiting, Linda xx

No one is justified except through faith in Jesus Christ (see Galatians 2:15-21)!

The Only Way to the Father is by Jesus Christ (ref. John 14:6)!

There is no other Name except Jesus in which anyone can be saved (Acts 4:12)!

New Age and Universalism are Satanic!

    Awesome post!
I am not a religious person, but I have faith that there is something bigger than me in this world. I am great believer in Mother Nature and all she gives me daily on this Earth. Being immersed in nature is healing for me…

Such a heartfelt and wonderfully written post, Linda. I believe those moments of awe you described are glimpses of God’s presence. His fingerprints on creation, reminding us He is near. Thank you for expressing it with such grace and openness.

And Congratulations, my Dear Friend, on the Bloggers Highlight Recognition… So well deserved. May your words continue to touch and inspire many across the world.
